Journal 4
In "OMG Shut Up!" Koehler is trying to get across the point that texting is making a negative impact on the English language; personally I did not think this argument was effective. Throughout the essay I thought she was repetitive about the things the author was saying and I also thought that she did not incorporate enough research in her argument. She also would say things like "based on research" and she would not note where she got that research from; that is creating a fallacy in her writing, which is making it less effective when reading it. As for my own personal experience I do use a different type of language when I text people, but I also benefit from texting because I use word on my phone which makes you have to spell things correctly to make it work properly. This helps my spelling...which is not so good, therefore I am benefiting from the texting that I do. I do agree that some people take their texting language into real life, but rarely do I see that in people's writing. In conclusion, I think people are not receiving a negative impact from text messaging and I think this reading was not effective.
