Journal 4

In my opinion, the essay was not very effective in proving the author’s point. There really was no research with the paper besides for the interviews that she had with her friends. There wasn’t enough there to convince me that texting was making our skill of the English language worse. Also, I have not even noticed that people used all those abbreviations when they send text messages. That could mean that this was not that big of an issue to write about unless she just did not take the time to do the research. I would agree that the language used in text messages is completely different than the actual English language. However, people should know the difference between when to use informal language(similar to texting language) and formal language(used in school papers and other formal occasions). Therefore, it doesn’t seem likely for it to cause a drastic change in one’s ability to use the English language. Overall, it just wasn’t a good topic to use and it translated into a paper that failed to convince me.
