Journal Seven
One example of contemporary remediation is the musical Wicked. Wicked is derived from the movie The Wizard of Oz which came out in the early 1960's. The changes from the movie to the musical are very drastic. One change is the whole storyline itself. Wicked gives a completely different side of the story and it takes place before Dorothy comes to the land of Oz. An obvious change is that there is more music and humor in Wicked than in The Wizard of Oz. It also displays the characters differently and puts the setting in a more contemporary time. It is also more relatable to the audience than The Wizard of Oz is due to the fact that it deals with the Wicked Witch and Glenda the Good going to school and becoming socially accepted.
