Journal 1

Do you consider yourself a writer? Why or why not? In addition, why do you write—is it for a grade, leisure, communication, work, etc.? What are you hoping to accomplish in this class?

  1. I believe whether you realize it or not, like it or not, we are all writers. Like many have posted already, writing is an essential part of our lives. On a daily basis we are writing inside and outside of the classroom, developing our own personal style and voice through words. We all write for various reasons; school work, notes to your self, but I think a major use of writing is with communication. Whether it’s online, in a note, a text message or something else, our days revolve around writing. While I consider myself a writer, I don’t write formally for leisure. Since writing is such a universally important skill to have, in this class I hope to continue learning and improving my writing skills.

  2. I do consider myself a writer. I may not sit down and write a novel, but I am still a writer. I use writing everyday, and I believe that it is necessary in society today. Whether I write, type, or send texts, I am still using the form of writing. I send text messages, I write emails, Google on my Ipod Touch, take notes in classes, write homework assignments (like writing musical notation, short essays, or even one word responses), and even use writing/typing when putting my name on the top of my homework. Writing is a form of communication and is used in almost every area of life. In this English class I want to become a better writer. That is, to be able to express my thoughts, write assignments, and just improve my writing in general more effectively and efficiently.

  3. In my opinion, I wouldn't consider myself a writer, but I'm sure other people would be able to convince me otherwise. When I think of writing, I always think of the writing that must for be done for school classes, which is the main reason why I don’t consider myself a writer. But when someone looks at all aspects of life, there is an argument to be made that I am a writer. Ranging from Facebook to texting, there are many forms of writing that aren’t usually thought of when talking about it. However, I’m also not a person to just sit and write poems and stories when I’m bored. My main forms of writing are texting and facebook. Other than that, I don’t spend much time writing. With this class, I mainly just want to get a good grade and move on to the next level of English but I also want to become a better writer.

  4. I do believe i'm a writer to an extent. I do not do it as a profession, but in k-12 grade we were required to write and especially in college. Now do i enjoy writing as much as my other subjects probably not, but in some shape or form were all writers. I do not enjoy writing novels, or books, but i do enjoy texting back when i receive a text message, or Facebook message. Im not sure i would address myself as a writer because i do not love doing it, and i feel like if you choose writing as your profession you probably liked it and wanted to do it and i don't do it because i love it, but because i'm assigned to it or am asked to respond back through writing. What i want out of this class is well first a good grade, and i'd like to improve my writing skills, and be able to write a college level paper and fully understand whats being asked of me and receive a good grade on it.
