Journal # 1 (Haley Smola)
I consider myself a writer, because without writing I would be lost. Although some people love to write and some people hate it, all people must do it in order to survive and live in an average society. I consider myself a writer because I like to remember. I write journals, I write lists of what I need to do, I write stories, I write poems, I write convincing essays, I write about what i think is important. Without being able to do all of this I don't know how I would conduct a normal life. I am a writer because writing keeps me sane and reminds me who I am and who I want to be. I write for all different reasons. I write for a grade so I can learn and grow and succeed. I write leisurely to calm myself or express myself. But most importantly I write to communicate. I believe communication is one of the most important parts of life. I write to communicate to adults, peers, pals and myself. With all of this in mind, what I'm hoping to accomplish in this class is a better sense of how to write well. I want to learn skills and steps of how to improve what I write, because although writing is important to me, it isn't my strongest point. I hope to learn how to communicate as well as I can as a writer and learn to appreciate writing more than I ever have before.
