First off in Koehler's article she just uses logos to get her point across. This limits her power to get the point across about kids becoming illiterate. By using logic Megan sets up an experiment per say in order to make her opinion a fact. She achieves this by interviewing other common people who text and gaining their opinions as well as testing if their opinions are true through the way they text her back. The data received than shows that textspeak has become a new language when texting and also sometimes in conversation between friends. But I believe she fails to have any facts that show text speak is incorporated in school work and papers being turned into educational institutions. I also don't see how using textspeak in text messages and conversation is having a negative effect on kids illiteracy if it isn't causing them problems in school or any other area of importance. In conclusion, I believe Megan gets her point across somewhat when she says textspeak is becoming more popular in culture, but fails to fully prove that kids are becoming illiterate.

As I read the writer’s memo and the first few paragraphs of ‘OMG Shut Up’ I was really interested in seeing what she had to say because I felt that it had potential to be a really intriguing argument. Unfortunately, I felt that the paper didn’t live up to what it could have been. She did use a good amount of logos, and did refer to an outside source, but for a research paper you would think that there would be much more information pulled from outside sources to contribute to the ethos of the argument. I feel that she began to come up with an insightful argument when she talked about how because we didn’t grow up from the very beginning texting that it probably hasn’t affected us as much as it will in future generations, but ended her argument shortly after. I think that the paper had a great topic but not enough of logos, ethos, pathos or an insightful argument to give it the argument that it could potentially have.

The argument that Koehler is trying to prove is that texting has had a negative effect on the literacy and grammar skills of American’s youth. Koehler mostly uses logos in her argument citing two studies done on the effects of texting. I really don’t think this argument is effective. I mostly use proper English grammar when texting and double check my spelling. I don’t want people to think I’m dumb because I don’t know how to spell. She also claims to be such a grammar and proper English freak but in her writer’s memo she has a blatant typo. “We got out papers back, and after much tweaking and rewriting, you have before you the finished product I am so very proud to call my own.”(126) Obviously the word out should have been our but she failed to catch this simple error. This pretty much destroys her ethos in my opinion, she starts off her paper about proper English and grammar with a typo, how intelligent is that?

Journal 3 - King Library

I thought the trip to King Library was a really good experience. I think it is a really good idea to have a tour of the main library, especially for new students, such as a freshman English class. I had been to the library before but I hadn't know too much about it until after our tour. I learned a lot about the way the books are organized and how to use the online database and library too. I'm really glad we did this tour because now I feel much more comfortable and at ease when I go to the library because I am so much more informed.

I enjoyed myself as we visited the library. That was really the first time that I have gotten a real tour of everything besides the college visits. It wasn't what i expected. This is because the technology was far greater than what i imagined. Our library at home is nothing compared to it and i am very excited for that fact. I think that if i needed to create a movie or something that required more computer power than my laptop could handle i would be able to rent the appropriate things out of the library. I am glad that we got to visit and take a tour.

My visit to the library was very successful. It was successful in that I learned a lot about how to get around the library, use different sources, learn how to sign up for things, and how to look up books. All of these accessories will help me in the future. I will definitely be going to the King Library to cram in a study session or write a paper. It is a quite and very resourceful place to get work done. I enjoyed our time there.
