Journal 7 Remediation

One specific example of remediation that first comes to mind for me is the remediation of the movie E.T. to the Universal Studio's ride called "E.T Adventures" In the famous movie E.T. a young boy discovers an alien on Earth and befriends it. He soon realizes that the alien, named E.T., is not safe on Earth and also need to help his friends on his planet. For this reason much of the exciting parts of the movie are the boy'a adventures in getting him back home to his planet. When you decide to go on this ride you watch a short video clip and then get onto bike-like seats knowing you are getting onto the ride and joining in on the adventure of getting E.T. safely back home. In the movie the boys take bikes, avoid the police and hid E.T. to protect him. On the ride the same general events of the movie are put into action as you go through and ride the ride. This is a very good form of remediation in my eyes.

Harry Potter is one example of how a series of books have been remediated into video games, books on tape, and motion pictures. These remediations vary in how they differ from each other. For example, the Harry Potter video games mostly stray away from the books in regards to characters and story line. The books on tape closely follow if not replicate the exact texts from the book however give a different interpretation of the novel due to the readers tone and how he/she narrates the book. Lastly, the Harry Potter movies follow the books, however lack some great detail (scenery, characters, and events) that was encompassed in the books. One who has read the book, and then gone to see the movie, will often leave disappointed because some of the elements given in the book are not as clearly noted or expressed correctly by the actors.

Agreeing with the comment below, I think that the most well known kind of remediation is with books being turned into movies. Another example of this is the Lord of the Rings series. I think these were turned into a movie because the books were so popular that the makers knew the movies would be also and would probably make a lot of money too. Also the books are really long and descriptive and have a great plot which gives a director a lot to work with. The movies bring the books, characters and the scenery to life and for the majority of the time, I think directors do a good job with remediating (ex: Harry Potter).

One example of a remediation is Twilight. Twilight started out as a series of books and three out of four of those books have been made into movies. I'm pretty sure the fourth book is being made into the next movie along with the other three. Although I haven't read the books myself my mother has. She has told me that the books are much longer than the movie and that the movies don't do the books justice.The story line, along with the personalities, lives, and story as a whole kind of change through the process of Twilight being a book made into a movie.The reviews say that the movies leave out a lot of details that readers feel are important to Bella and the other characters stories. Also they've turned the books into posters and clothing, and numerous other money making, marketing strategies. I understand why a lot is cut out or changed because its a movie. You have to cover a lengthy book in two hours, so producers, or movie creators have to sift through what information is important and what will sell. Love stories always get to the girls and seem to be a big hit typically. The centered the movie around Bella and her relationships.

Remediation

One specific remediation example is a book I have read being turned into a movie. This book was called The Last Song. The book was created first and then it was turned into a movie which means it was a form of remediation. The book was translated into content that was print and was formed into a big motion picture. We are also doing remediation in class with our essays forming them into videos.
